This is a nice, basic introduction to first aid and defibrillation, aimed at 8 to 11 year olds, but it can suit children of any age.

The course is kept at a basic level without any confusing terminology.

The course will show complete respect for the child's ability, is educational and practical. It instills the importance of helping someone who is sick or injured.

A maximum of 16 children can be accommodated on the course. Ideally all children should be a minimum of 8 years of age, but younger children are permitted.

Syllabus includes:

• what is first aid
• defibrillation
• the recovery position
• resuscitation (CPR)
• wounds and bleeding
• shock
• first aid kits
• choking
• DR ABC
• asthma
• safety
• communication and contracting emergency services

The course requires approximately three hours, but this can flexible dependant upon the syllabus you require. There will be educational, theoretical and practical teaching sessions.

Assessment and Certification

This is a non-regulated qualification and attendance is all that is required.

Optional test/quizzes in the form of a workbook are available.

A certificate of attendance is included with the Mini Medic book for each child.
